Twitter is going to be sued by an Australian man which defamed him for a personal tweet directed against television channel. Mariek Hardy is a popular television identity and writer who was using her tweets to accuse Joshua Meggitt. Now her twitter account is used for posting tweets and following of tweets by others. Yesterday, lawyers of Mariek Hardy served a legal notice against twitter website.

Twitter, which is a popular San Francisco based social website and popular for short blogs or tweets to be posted by its registered members. It is first time that twitter is sued for users’ privacy issues. Hardy said that she is shameful about twitter website and join her for an anonymous internet bully.

Different tweets posted were linked to her personal blog and it explained that Mr. Meggitt was writing hateful and ranting articles about her, but it was verified that her claim was not true. Mrs. Hardy has more than sixty thousand followers on twitter and she settled against Mr. Meggitt an AUS $ 15,000 a defamation claim.

Lawyer of Mr. Meggitt told that he will not sue against those individuals who commented and retweeted her tweets, which were claimed that Mr. Meggitt is creating hatred and ranting. Lawyer also told that his client has not agreed to terms and conditions of twitter as he never signed on this social website. When users get registered with twitter website, they have to be responsibility for any cheating on their twitter accounts.

According to Mr. Gibson, a platform which is responsible for tweets has published it and must be sued for this act, in which Meggitt has been humiliated. Twitter will be sued for both original tweets and retweets in this case. He said that US laws are providing immunity to such computer networking website but in Australia there are no such laws in Australia.

According to Australian laws, if hatred posts are posted on twitter and Facebook against an individual, such platforms are responsible and will be sued. During 2002, a similar court case was won against US publisher Dow Jones by Melbourne mining magnate, under the similar court case.
