More and More Irish are Spending on their Gardens

As the economy is having a downright plunge into recession, garden centres may receive a positive business position on this time of year.  In a research conducted by Bord Bia, survey shows that about 43% of people are planning to spend more on their gardens.

This will be a good sign to landscape contractors and nursery growers.  In the study conducted it was revealed that the total value for Irish amenity market came to a staggering €717 million.  This includes all purchases for indoor and outdoor plants and trees, potted herbs, landscaping and garden products which also consists of services.

Carol Marks of Bord Bia said that the study just showed that the garden is seen as an extension of the home not only as place to relax but also a place for entertainment and for children to play.

One would ask why people will spend more on their gardens in times of economic downturn.  This is the time where money is frugal and the need of being smart on the budget is a must.

The answer to this mindboggling trend is that people are spending more time in their homes.  Instead of eating in restaurants, spending time in shopping malls or taking the kids to a theme park, the Irish home will be a safe haven for all of those expenses.  This is one positive view on how the Irish people cope up and divert their attention on these difficult times.
